The Santa Cruz County Fire Marshal serves for fire code compliance, as delegated by the County of Santa Cruz Planning Department. New buildings are required to have fire sprinkler systems installed, according to the Santa Cruz County fire and building codes. If fire flow is not achieved with the providing water supply, additional water storage may be needed for fire code compliance.

Pioneer Water Tanks are an approved water supply capable of supplying the required water flow for fire protection must be provided. When a portion of the building is more than 150 feet from a water supply on a public street, an approved hydrant is required on the site.

      SANTA CRUZ WATER TANKS

WaterMark H2O provides California with cost-efficient water storage tanks.

      SANTA CRUZ WATER TANKS

Pioneer Water Tanks are cost-effective for dual purposes and are approved for use in California. Dual service water storage tanks can be used for fire protection, irrigation, as a potable drinking water source and more applications. Ensure adequate water supply is ready in case of an emergency with the appropriate fire connections for residential and commercial needs. This is typically achieved with two separate plumbing systems being implemented with the water tank. The plumbing pipe for the separate use does not extend below the water elevation that is reserved for fire protection.

We can deliver and install water storage tanks from 10,000 to 1,000,000-Gallons. Pioneer Water Tanks are backed by our industry-leading 20-Year warranty so you can rest easy knowing you have a water storage solution that will last.

      TESTED AND PROVEN

Pioneer Water Tanks are manufactured to NFPA 22 requirements and have been third-party tested and proven.

The following video is a Pioneer Water Tank that was tested with a 30-minute flame immersion test conducted by the Australian Government Bushfire Cooperative Research Center. The Pioneer Water Tank maintained structural integrity and proved able to retain water during and after the fire front, essential elements for a fire protection water supply.

      Santa Cruz Water Tanks

Pioneer Water Tanks are approved for use in Santa Cruz County for fire protection and drinking water storage. Combining several uses into one dual-use water tank saves money as compared to buying two separate water storage systems. Our standpipe or external fitting options diverts the additional water supply to ensure that it doesn’t affect the required mandated usable water capacity for fire protection. We offer commercial accessory options to comply with local requirements.

Only the highest quality Zincalume® and Colorbond® steel are used in Pioneer Water Tanks, providing unmatched durability that no other tank manufacturer can offer – that’s why Pioneer Tanks last longer than any other brand. Pioneer Water Tanks come standard in Zincalume® Steel with your option of upgrading to a wide selection of Colorbond® steel color options.

Next-generation ZINCALUME® steel AM125 introduces magnesium into the aluminum-zinc alloy coating, which improves galvanic protection by activating the aluminum. The result is more effective corrosion resistance. BlueScope Steel research and testing have found that the addition of 2% magnesium is the optimum level of corrosion performance and coating integrity. Along with a capital investment of over $100 million to facilitate the required manufacturing capability, BlueScope Steel can now produce next-generation ZINCALUME® steel AM125 with even greater durability and a more efficient protective coating mass.

To ensure the durability and reputation of next-generation ZINCALUME® steel, BlueScope Steel conducted a comprehensive testing program that included a series of accelerated laboratory corrosion tests as well as a strong emphasis on real-world outdoor exposure tests. A thorough and rigorous testing program ensured that the new product provided optimum performance.

        Pioneer Water Tanks Foundations

The foundation for Pioneer Water Tanks depends on the location and application of the water storage project. Pioneer Water Tanks may have the option to sit on a clean sand pad base or may be required to be anchored to a concrete ring beam depending on the local authority.

This short video shows a concrete ring beam being installed for a 51,785-Gallon Pioneer Water Tank in Nothern California.

Concrete ring beam outline for Pioneer Water Tanks

The ring beam drawings specify the size, number and spacing of the reinforcing bars and ligatures to be used as well as the MPA rating for the concrete. Ring beams should be as level as possible and have no more than +/- 1/16” over any 5’0” (+/- 2mm over any 2m) of the circumference at the tank wall position and +/- 1/8” (+/- 4mm) over the entire ring beam. A survey chart will need to be completed and returned to your local installer for approval before the construction is started.

The local Pioneer Water Tanks installer needs to ensure that foundation conditions are adequate. All water storage systems are subject to the local authority requirements so Pioneer Water Tanks also recommends local installers adhere to that authority for the tank location.
