The first antimicrobial tank liner in the world, our state-of the art five-layer AQUALINER® Fresh keeps your water fresher for longer with embedded Sanitized® Silver technology. With a life expectancy of 65 years, the AQUALINER® Fresh is designed to fit the Pioneer Water Tank to prevent contamination.
Our geotextile underlay is the ideal way to protect your AQUALINER® Fresh from being compromised by sharp objects that may be caught inside your water tank.
Our sacrificial magnesium anodes significantly extend the life of your water tank by protecting the tank from corrosion. Made from magnesium, the anodes erode in place of the water tank, thereby protecting the steel and allowing the tank to last longer than other systems. Pioneer Water Tanks recommend your anodes be replaced every 10 years so you can enjoy the benefits of your tank for life.
Reduce the amount of contaminants to protect your precious water supply with Pioneer Water Tanks’ high-density foam sealer.
6-INCH DIAMETER OVERFLOW
Pioneer Water Tanks provides a 6” diameter overflow downpipe, the largest overflow system on the market. The overflow size moves excess water away from the tank quickly to effectively reduce pressure on your tank and avoid costly damage to your tank components.
Pioneer Water Tanks, AQUALINER® Fresh antimicrobial tank liner is a world’s first to keep your water fresher, for longer.
For families across the world relying on the quality of tank water for their daily use and consumption, this means for the first time, being able to enjoy the additional peace of mind that comes with fresher, purer and cleaner water, thanks to the use of antimicrobial technology on the inside lining of Pioneer water tanks.
The AQUALINER® Fresh is manufactured utilizing a patented three-layer process that adheres a PP Multifilament Base with a Polyethylene Film on the surface.
The PP base, PP/PE Coating, and PE Film are all bound together through a process called Extrusion Coating.
The PP Multifilament Base provides strength, flexibility, and dimensional stability.
The PE Film provides toughness, water resistance, and heat seal characteristics.
“The AQUALINER® Fresh tank liner is the culmination of Pioneer’s 30 years’ local and international experience in water storage and a result of our continuous drive to improve the way we store water for the benefit of our customers. Water quality is an important global issue and we know it’s one of the most important factors people consider when buying a water tank” said Daniel Wyatt, General Manager, Pioneer Water Tanks.
Ensuring the quality of your water is incredibly important!
The AQUALINER® Fresh features excellent flexibility, high tensile strength, waterproof, and good abrasion resistance. The reliable liner Black PE film has Sanitized® treatment embedded into the top layer that touches the water, which prevents bacterial/microbial growth.
The ideal liner fabric used in water tanks is a balance and compromise of all the solutions that address the key criteria.
In designing a suitable liner fabric, some of the key criteria that need to be considered are:
• Tear and tensile strength
• Chemical resistance
• Fabric Weight
• Shrink resistance/ stability
The above graph demonstrates the estimated value against each of the key criteria considered during the design and evaluation of AQUALINER® Fresh.
Fabric constructed from a weave is the most practical method to achieve the desired tear and tensile strength for a liner fabric. A fabric without a weave will continue to stretch when the tank is filled (particularly if the tank wall is corrugated) and then relax when the water level drops. The water level in a tank will rise and drop several times throughout the lifetime of the liner, thus resulting in a thinner and less secure liner over time. This is why the AQUALINER® Fresh features the proprietary weave made of high tenacity multifilament Polypropylene.
The AQUALINER® Fresh remains waterproof and retains shape under high pressure due to weave structure.
Other tank liners that don’t utilize a weave, stretches at any weak point. Once the stretching starts, it continues in this area thus making the fabric thinner and thinner and weaker and weaker. Until it finally bursts.
The Aqualiner Fresh® tank liner used in Pioneer Water Tanks, is third party NSF 61 certified for drinking water storage. The National Safety Foundation standards for drinking water are developed by a team of scientists and industry experts to guarantee products worldwide.
The NSF/ANSI 61 Drinking Water System certification is accepted worldwide and is applicable for drinking water across North America.
WORLD-FIRST ANTIMICROBIAL WATER TANK LINER
The multi-generational AQUALINER® Fresh fabric has been a mainstay of the Pioneer Water Tanks 30-year success story and legendary water holding performance. The new fabric retains the Globally Patented Multi-layered PP/PE textile with a spun-woven multifilament polypropylene (PP) scrim construction (WO 2007/070917).
The use of antimicrobial protection in a tank liner is the world’s first use of this technology in this application, and our Australian manufacturer of the fabric has applied for an additional Patent to protect this innovation. The patent application has been accepted and its current status is “Patent Pending 2017902908”.
Pioneer has back to back exclusivity agreements with everyone in the liner fabric supply chain to ensure exclusive supply of this product to Pioneer, and Pioneer is the only steel liner tank company in the world who has access to this technology for this application.
Only the highest quality Zincalume® and Colorbond® steel are used in Pioneer Water Tanks, providing unmatched durability that no other tank manufacturer can offer- that’s why Pioneer Tanks last longer than any other brand. Pioneer Water Tanks come standard in Zincalume® Steel with your option of upgrading to a wide selection of Colorbond® steel color options.
The Zincalume® Steel Manufacturing Process
1. The metallic coating provides barrier protection to the steel. Magnesium compounds are positioned in the metallic coating to activate at the start of weathering when they are most vital for sacrificial protection.
2. Corrosion of the zinc-rich interdendritic region provides improved sacrificial protection to the steel base due to the presence of the magnesium compound. Magnesium siblicide particles in the interdendritic channels act as additional barriers to slow corrosion and restrict corrosion pathways to the steel substrate.
3. The Aluminum-rich region is modified to provide improved sacrificial protection of the steel base and resist rusting for longer in more severe environments.
ZINCALUME STEEL® IS TESTED AND PROVEN TO LAST LONGER
Next generation ZINCALUME® steel AM125 introduces magnesium into the aluminum-zinc alloy coating, which improves galvanic protection by activating the aluminum. The result is more effective corrosion resistance. BlueScope Steel research and testing have found that the addition of 2% magnesium is the optimum level of corrosion performance and coating integrity. Along with a capital investment of over $100 million to facilitate the required manufacturing capability, BlueScope Steel can now produce next generation ZINCALUME® steel AM125 with even greater durability and a more efficient protective coating mass.
To ensure the durability and reputation of next generation ZINCALUME® steel, BlueScope Steel conducted a comprehensive testing program that included a series of accelerated laboratory corrosion tests as well as a strong emphasis on real-world outdoor exposure tests. A thorough and rigorous testing program ensured that the new product provided optimum performance.

HOW TO PREPARE YOUR PROPERTY FOR WATER TANK INSTALLATION
Before most water tanks can be installed, a cement ring beam or a stable sand pad foundation must be prepared.
There are some important things to consider when selecting your tank site and preparing the pad.
The sand pad must be level, stable and free of debris prior to construction.
The sand pad must be at least 7’ larger than the diameter of your tank.
For sloping tank sites, ensure adequate drainage to divert runoff away from the tank wall.
Aggregate must be placed around the circumference of your tank to stop erosion and comply with warranty conditions*.
A retaining wall may be required to maintain pad integrity*.
Your tank should not be left empty for an extended period of time. A minimum load of water (10% of tank capacity) should be placed in your tank at the completion of construction.
Before you start preparing your site for installation of your water tank, Pioneer Water Tanks also recommends you contact your local authority to see if there are any regulations or restrictions in place.
Some Pioneer Water Tank projects need or prefer a cement ring beam, learn more about the installation.
