Residential Water Storage for Fire Protection
The California Residential Code section R313.2 requires automatic residential fire sprinkler systems in one and two-family dwellings.
New detached accessory dwelling units are required to comply with the standards for fire protection such as water supply and fire department access.
“A storage tank, designed and installed in accordance with the 2003 edition of NFPA 22, Standard for Water Tanks for Private Fire Protection and this standard, shall be provided. Fire Protection Tanks range from 7 to 11 feet in height with gross capacities ranging from 10,000 gallons to 1,000,000 gallons to accomplish your compliance needs. The amount of water that the tank needs to store is dependent on the county fire authority fire flow requirements. Fire flow requirements specify the amount of water needed to adequately provide fire protection.
