The Dallas County Fire Prevention and Inspection Division, under the direction of the Fire Marshall, Deputy Chief Christopher Martinez, is responsible for Code Enforcement, Inspections, and Education.
Dallas County requires permits and plan submittals for new fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems to include providing the required water supply, the fire flow, for the building. Dallas County Fire Code as Relevant to Fire Flow
507.2.2 Water tanks. Water tanks for private fire protection shall be installed in accordance with NFPA 22.
95. Subsection 507.3, “Fire Flow,” of Section 507, “Fire Protection Water Supplies,” of Chapter 5, “Fire Service Features,” of the 2015 International Fire Code is amended to read as Follows:
507.3 Fire flow. Fire flow requirements for buildings or portions of buildings and facilities shall be in accordance with Appendix B, “Fire-Flow Requirements for Buildings.” [determined by an approved method.]
507.4 Water supply test. The water supply test used for hydraulic calculation of fire protection systems shall be conducted in accordance with NFPA 291 “Recommended Practice for Fire Flow Testing and Marking of Hydrants.” The fire code official shall be notified prior to the water supply test. Water supply tests shall be witnessed by the fire code official, as required. Approved documentation of the test shall be provided to the fire code official prior to final approval of the water supply system.
